A consultancy built around one stubborn idea

That a spreadsheet is only finished when someone who did not build it can open it, understand it, and change it safely.

G2  ·  How we started

It started with other people's broken files

Jay began taking on spreadsheet work the way most consultants do — one broken workbook at a time. The pattern showed up quickly. Almost every file arrived with the same story attached: it was built by someone clever, in a hurry, for a job that has since changed three times, and now nobody wants to touch it.

The fix was rarely a better formula. It was structure: separate the data from the calculations, take the assumptions out of the formulas, write down what the thing does. Files rebuilt that way stopped coming back.

Excel Wizard grew out of that approach, and the team grew alongside it — data specialists for modelling and analysis, technical specialists for automation, interfaces and integration. Thirteen people now, spread across time zones, which is the practical reason a project does not stall when one person is on leave.

We also run four sister practices for the neighbouring problems: DashboardDr.com for dashboard design, LookerDoctor.com for Looker Studio, GoogleSheetsExpert.com for Google Sheets, and Squarespace-expert.com for the web side.

G3  ·  How we work

Four commitments we hold to

G3.1

We tell you when you do not need us

If the fix takes ten minutes, we will show you on the call. Turning a small problem into a project is a short-term win and a long-term loss.

G3.2

We do not lock you in

Code is unlocked and commented. Documentation ships with every file. If you want to bring the work in-house next year, nothing stops you.

G3.3

We recommend against Excel when it is right to

Sometimes the answer is Power BI, a database, or a purpose-built tool. Selling you a spreadsheet you will outgrow in six months helps nobody.

G3.4

We treat your data as yours

NDAs signed before files move, access limited to the specialists on your project, and working copies deleted on request when a project closes.
